Our Story

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. – Steve Jobs.
The reason I started K. Groovy.
My lifelong dream has always been to create functional art. Throughout my life, I have naturally gravitated toward creative, hands-on projects. In high school, I immersed myself in artwork classes. I also loved architectural drafting because it allowed me to express myself through precise drawings. As I progressed through college toward a Business Administration degree, I still found time to feed my creative hunger by working with clay in pottery classes.
It is easy to get pulled in the directions that society deems best for you. I wished I’d had the courage to follow my heart into a creative field right away. Instead, I spent 30 years working in the insurance industry. While it provided a wonderful opportunity to care for my family, I was never truly fulfilled by my career.
Fortunately, I was blessed with the opportunity to retire a few years earlier than normal. I immediately decided to move forward with what I truly love: creating fun, unique items out of wood. Stepping into this dream has been an incredibly rewarding adventure.
None of this would be possible without the most awesome person in my life—my wife. She continues to encourage, support, and help me every step of the way. She is the smartest person I know and has helped me break through plenty of creative blocks. Also, my son who continues to encourage me to press forward with this project, and has opened up a lot of doors for K. Groovy.
If you are reading this, a big thank you to you as well for taking the time to consider my groovy creations!
